A classic gets a VR makeover
Homeworld series originated from the popular game with the same name in 1999, which gained recognition as Game of the Year by several publications. Homeworld 2 was released in 2003 as a sequel.
The rights to the IP were acquired by Gearbox Entertainment in 2013, leading to the release of the Homeworld Remastered Collection in 2015. A prequel titled Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak was released in 2016. On May 13, Homeworld 3 will be launched for PC, continuing the story 100 years after the events of Homeworld 2.
UK studio Farbridge is currently developing Homeworld: Vast Reaches. This studio has a notable track record, having released numerous games in the past and also contributing to the development of Walkabout Mini Golf in virtual reality.
Homeworld: Vast Reaches fills a gap
There is a scarcity of real-time strategy games in virtual reality, making Homeworld: VR a highly appreciated addition. The game’s overall quality will be determined by the extent to which the traditional mouse and keyboard gameplay has been successfully modified for virtual reality.
VR RTS alternatives for Meta Quest with a space theme are Eternal Starlight, Ghost Signal: A Stellaris Game, and Gods of Gravity.
