The Premier League has entered into a long-term agreement with VR developer Rezzil.

The English Premier League (EPL) has this week announced a four-year partnership with Rezzil, a virtual reality (VR) software developer that specializes in the production of sports gaming software for athlete training and game analysis.

The partnership will see the Premier League and Rezzil work together on the development of a VR game, which is expected to be launched later this year. The game will place users on the pitch and in the boots of their favorite Premier League players, offering fans a unique opportunity to recreate iconic Premier League goals and moments from a VR perspective.

Rezzil applications are widely used in professional football and by many Premier League clubs as well as other leagues and sports. Furthermore, Rezzil’s software can integrate directly with Premier League match data, which allows clubs to adapt the software to re-create match scenarios and replay them through a VR headset.

According to the company, the software can also be utilized by broadcasters and the larger gaming industry. It enables the use of match data to enhance viewers’ and gamers’ engagement with the on-field action.

Rezzil’s VR training platform helps to create an analytical assessment of a player’s wellness, cognitive capabilities, and skill level.

Commenting on the partnership, Will Brass, the Premier League’s Chief Commercial Officer, said: “We are excited about the ongoing development of VR technology within football. Rezzil are highly respected in the field and have developed an excellent reputation with training products that are being used by many Premier League clubs alongside leading sports teams and leagues around the world.

“The potential uses of this technology are rapidly increasing, and this collaboration will witness the Premier League collaborating with Rezzil on developing products that can revolutionize the experiences of players, fans, and viewers.”

The Premier League’s partnership with Rezzil will involve the Premier League acquiring a share in the company. While the exact amount of the equity stake was not revealed, the Premier League announced that this investment will position both companies as leaders in the advancement of VR and XR technology in sports.

Andy Etches, one of the co-founders of Rezzil, expressed his excitement about the new partnership with the Premier League. The combination of their VR technology knowledge and the thrilling experience of Premier League football will greatly contribute to the engagement of both fans and players. By working closely together, they aim to introduce innovative uses of VR technology in football that have never been witnessed before.
