Two VR games have been nominated for this year’s prestigious Emmy Awards: The Pirate Queen and Wallace & Gromit in The Grand Getaway.
The nominations were made for the category called “Outstanding Emerging Media Program”.
Three other works are up for nomination in this category, apart from The Pirate Queen, with two of them being VR experiences.
- The VR film Emperor by Atlas V,
- Red Rocks VR live concerts for Meta Quest and
- Fallout: Vault 33 from Amazon.
The Pirate Queen is Singer Studios’ first VR production and follows Cheng Shih, who lived in the early 19th century and at the height of her power commanded a fleet of over 400 ships and 70,000 men. The plot is partly fictional and tells the story of a fateful night when Shih must thwart a rival’s plans to seize power.
The VR game effectively switches between storytelling, problem-solving, and skill-based tasks to maintain engagement. Throughout the two-hour journey, players can explore Shih’s thoughts and delve into her inner world. The voice of the pirate character is provided by American actress Lucy Liu.

In our review of Wallace & Gromit VR, we wrote:
If you are familiar with and have an appreciation for the Wallace & Gromit franchise, you will find this story to be quite familiar and enjoyable. The distinctive plasticine character design and British slapstick humor that are trademarks of the movies are not lacking in any way in this game. However, personal preference plays a role in determining how much one enjoys these elements. The standout aspects of the game are the performances by Benjamin Whitehead, who has provided the voice for Wallace across all media since 2009, and actress Miriam Margolyes, who portrays the robot lady Beryl.
Wallace & Gromit in the Grand Getaway is also available on the Quest Store.
