The virtual reality racing title EXOcars strives to provide top-tier graphics and believable driving dynamics on Playstation VR 2, yet a recent move by the developers stirred debate within the gaming audience.

This game guarantees an engaging VR racing adventure on PSVR 2, showcasing a variety of courses that traverse city roads, stadiums, deserts, mountains, and tropical terrains. Although multiplayer capabilities experienced a temporary hold while awaiting Sony’s approval (anticipated by late March), another revelation faced strong backlash from fans: the decision to eliminate support for haptic steering wheel controllers.

The developer, Xocus, initially intended for all users, including those on the Steam version, to rely solely on thumbsticks or the virtual steering wheel. Their rationale stemmed from the belief that haptic steering wheels might grant certain players an unfair advantage.

Response from the gaming community prompts a change in strategy

The response from racing fans was sufficiently potent, leading Xocus to quickly shift gears, announcing their intent to reinstate steering wheel support in EXOcars. The studio recognized the community’s grievances and crafted a new method to ensure competitive fairness.

In order to accommodate various playstyles, Xocus is currently working on re-enabling steering wheel support and gathering a list of compatible controller models via their Discord. They also aim to introduce separate leagues based on input methods, allowing players to select their desired competitive setting.

The multiplayer aspect of the game will not distinguish matches based on input devices, thus broadening the online player base by permitting everyone to compete. Xocus indicates they are aiming to reestablish steering wheel support shortly after the PSVR 2 release.

The recently launched on Steam and Quest 3 VR racing title EXOcars is set to debut on PlayStation VR 2 on March 6.
