Meta and Oakley Launch AI Performance Glasses Designed for Athletes

June 23, 2025 – Meta, in collaboration with Oakley and EssilorLuxottica, has unveiled an innovative product line of ‘Performance AI glasses’. The inaugural model, Oakley Meta HSTN, merges Oakley’s athletic eyewear aesthetics with Meta’s advanced AI functionalities.

With the introduction of Oakley Meta HSTN, Meta reinforces its dominance in a category where it has already established a significant foothold. The company’s vision for smart glasses is evident: integrate practical AI features with stylish eyewear brands that consumers desire. Its collaboration with EssilorLuxottica has been pivotal, enabling Meta to avoid design blunders seen in previous endeavors in the realm.

Features of Oakley Meta HSTN

The Oakley Meta HSTN is designed to facilitate hands-free recording and audio playback, equipped with a built-in camera, open-ear speakers, and IPX4 water resistance. These glasses are intended to enhance athletics and daily usage, empowering users to capture content, listen to music, and access Meta’s voice assistant seamlessly.

Meta claims that the glasses provide up to eight hours of battery life during regular use, with a rapid charging feature that can recharge 50% in just 20 minutes. A complimentary charging case extends battery life by an additional 48 hours. The device features a 3K Ultra HD camera that enables users to film high-definition videos from a first-person view.

Integrated with Meta AI, the glasses allow voice interactions for hands-free tasks, such as checking the weather or starting video recording using simple voice prompts.

The Oakley Meta HSTN glasses leverage Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 Platform, a specialized chipset designed for AI-enhanced wearables. Qualcomm states that its technology powers various features including voice-controlled photo capture, video streaming, real-time translation, and AI-driven scene recognition, all while maintaining battery efficiency and sleek design.

Pricing for Oakley Meta HSTN

Preorders for a limited-edition Oakley Meta HSTN are set to begin on July 11, with a price tag of USD $499. The full collection will launch later in the summer, starting at USD $399. Initial distributions will include the U.S., Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Australia, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Denmark, with future plans to expand into Mexico, India, and the UAE by late 2025.

The product will be showcased at major sports events, including Fanatics Fest (June 20–22) and UFC International Fight Week (June 25–27), as part of a worldwide promotional initiative featuring Team Oakley athletes such as Kylian Mbappé, Patrick Mahomes, Gabriel Medina, and J.R. Smith.

Ray-Ban established the concept, but Oakley is amplifying it, and this latest launch fortifies Meta’s leading position in the competitive AI smart glasses market.
