February 20, 2025 – PTC, a provider of enterprise software solutions for the industrial and manufacturing sectors, has announced this week the rollout of Vuforia Engine 11, the newest iteration of its Vuforia augmented reality (AR) software development kit (SDK).
This update features a completely new Enterprise plan, along with various enhanced capabilities aimed at boosting object tracking, spatial navigation, and cloud-based AR experiences for extensive deployments.
The Enterprise plan grants access to Vuforia’s cutting-edge technologies, with options for on-premises deployment and unlimited target creation. Among the primary enhancements are ‘On-Prem Advanced Model Targets.’
Model targets are three-dimensional objects or shapes recognized by an AR application, used to anchor digital content. Unlike traditional image targets that consist of flat 2D surfaces like posters or QR codes, model targets are 3D objects (including a car, machinery, or product) identifiable by their geometry.
The inclusion of On-Prem Advanced Model Targets in Vuforia Engine 11 enables developers to create model-based tracking targets locally without relying on cloud training. These targets can be recognized from various angles while maintaining sensitive CAD information on-site, according to the company.
Another significant feature is On-Prem Step Check, an AI-driven tool that verifies procedural tasks. This system visually confirms whether a job has been carried out accurately, also without the necessity for cloud connectivity.
The Vuforia Engine team further revealed that State-Based Model Targets have officially moved out of beta, allowing developers to track objects through different stages of assembly or servicing.

To enhance large-scale navigation and AR experiences, the platform now features Cloud Area Targets, enabling users to process, store, and stream spatial data from the cloud. This feature eliminates the requirement for local storage, simplifying the deployment of AR content across numerous devices while traversing expansive spaces.
In a post announcing the launch, Zsolt Szalavari, Senior Director of Software Development at PTC, remarked: “This latest generation of our premier AR platform is loaded with features to assist industrial enterprises with stringent security needs looking to enhance manufacturing through AR guidance and AI quality assurance, along with empowering any developer to launch global AR initiatives for indoor environments.”
