EDM musician deadmau5 initiates a partnership with the VR music platform Soundscape, offering a unique virtual concert experience featuring captivating auditory effects and mind-altering visuals.

Soundscape, a virtual reality (VR) music platform, has partnered with the well-known EDM producer deadmau5. In this collaboration, deadmau5 will treat fans to a collection of exclusive virtual concerts on the platform, where he will showcase his newest tracks.

Users will be able to experience the performance in a world created especially for deadmau5. The world will feature spatial audio, psychedelic visuals, and even a 30-meter-tall deadmau5 avatar.

From visualizer to event platform

The announcement of the collaboration with deadmau5 comes on the heels of a major update to Soundscape, which transforms the platform into an impressive storm of effects thanks to Unreal Engine 5. The latest update also includes a Soundskin avatar creation feature and the fourth version of Sonic AI, Soundscape’s audiovisual engine, which improves the aesthetics and responsiveness of the visuals.

Originally launched in 2017 as an addition to the Burning Man festival in Colorado, the app has steadily evolved from a 3D audio visualizer to a social VR platform with public and private spaces and virtual clubs.

Also available in VR: Heavy Metal

In 2022, Soundscape developed a virtual festival setting for Slash featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators. “Looking Inside” by Avenged Sevenfold is another notable instance of a virtual reality concert. This performance, released in late February, allows users to have an up-close encounter with the heavy metal band. The show includes impressive effects that correspond with the genre’s suitable settings.

Nonetheless, there is an absence of an interactive element. While the audience is able to move their hands and make gestures, their ability to actively impact the proceedings is limited. Further enhancements are necessary in order to distinguish VR concerts from basic 180-degree videos.
