Rokid Incorporates Alipay Into AR Glasses for In-Store Transactions

Rokid, a Chinese company specializing in augmented reality (AR) solutions, has revealed the launch of in-store payment capabilities for its AR eyewear, in collaboration with Alipay. This integration enables consumers in China to make purchases through voice and gesture controls with the Rokid Glasses smart glasses, removing the necessity to use a mobile device.

The payment platform is backed by Alipay’s digital payment framework and its multifaceted risk management system, tailored specifically for augmented reality applications. Rokid has indicated that over 250,000 units of the Rokid Glasses have been ordered already, with deliveries starting in June.

How it operates:

  • Users connect their Alipay account through the Rokid app and activate voice authentication.
  • During checkout, they issue the voice command “Rokid, pay 10 RMB.”
  • The glasses then capture the merchant’s Alipay QR code.
  • Transaction details are displayed, and users confirm the payment verbally.

Rokid mentioned that this system allows transactions to be completed more swiftly than conventional smartphone-based QR payments, which typically require 20-30 seconds, while also providing a hands-free experience.

Rokid introduced its Rokid Glasses in November of the previous year. Developed in collaboration with eyewear company BOLON, these smart glasses incorporate cutting-edge augmented reality and AI technology.

“Integrating payment functionalities into Rokid Glasses provides users with a more fluid and intuitive experience, marking a significant advancement for the AI glasses sector in terms of payment solutions,” remarked Zhu Mingming, Founder and CEO of Rokid.

Zhang Aijuan, Vice President of Ant Group and Rotating President of its Digital Payment Division, remarked: “Rokid Glasses offer a groundbreaking user experience. Alipay is committed to supporting the development of emerging industries while delivering increased value to users.”

Alipay initially launched its ‘Alipay Tap!’ feature in 2024, enabling payments through tapping an unlocked smartphone against a merchant terminal. By April 2025, over 100 million users had embraced this service.

AR Smart Glasses Shaping the Future of Retail Interactions

This recent payment integration illustrates a rising trend in immersive commerce, wherein AR wearables become platforms for discovering products, customizing shopping experiences, and conducting contactless transactions.

Rokid asserted that incorporating payment capabilities into AR glasses indicates a future characterized by smoother and more intuitive shopping experiences. In the forthcoming years, this technology may allow individuals to finalize transactions merely by gazing at or gesturing towards a product, reducing barriers to both in-store and online shopping.

The company highlighted that this strategy could usher in innovative methods for businesses to connect with customers through location-based services and engaging experiences, including virtual try-ons and tailored recommendations.
